Promoting Summer Meal Availability

Summer break is here! While it’s a relief for many who work in K-12 schools, it can be unsettling for kids, especially those whose families lack consistent, nutritious food. Schools and organizations across Minnesota and the country are helping close the summer hunger gap by offering free summer meals.

If you’re offering summer meals as an “open” site, whether under the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) or SUN Meals/Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), you can provide food to any kids 18 years old and younger as long as you’re in area-eligible location. Getting the word out to families in your area is important for getting kids the nutrition they need this summer.

We’ll help by providing meals kids love so they will spread the word to their friends. You can tap into these free resources to promote your program:

USDA SUN Meals Promotional Toolkit: This comprehensive toolkit includes free, downloadable print materials, social media graphics, logos, videos, fact sheets and communications templates to help you spread the word about your summer meal program.
