Which menu is right for your program depends on several factors, including:
- Onsite Refrigeration
- Cooking Capabilities
- Service Style
- Staffing
In addition to wide spread appeal, the menu items are also chosen based on ease of preparation and service, as we know many sites operate with fewer staff or volunteers during breakfast service.
Hot Breakfast
By far, everyone most prefers our hot breakfast menu. It’s filled with individually wrapped, cook-and-serve items such as: egg & cheese croissant sandwich, mozzarella pinwheel, three-cheese quesadilla (coming soon!), pancake puffs and breakfast burritos.
Hot breakfast service requires your site to have both refrigeration and cooking capabilities. It lends itself best to cafeteria-served breakfast or grab-and-go from the cafeteria.
Cold Breakfast with Protein
This menu allows sites without cooking capabilities to offer a cold protein paired with a one-ounce grain item. As examples, menu days include granola bites and yogurt cup, bagel and cream cheese, whole-grain muffin and hard-boiled egg, and assorted cereal bar and string cheese. The protein items require refrigeration, which can be a limiting factor for some sites.
To simplify service, sites can use dish tubs to hold each of the components required for a reimbursable breakfast: fruit, grain, protein, milk and a second fruit options. Under Offer vs. Serve, eaters need to take three of the five components, one of which must be fruit.
This menu lends itself best to grab-and-go from the cafeteria, where you can best keep the cold protein items at safe temperatures. If you put your milk and cold protein items in a cooler, you could place your grab-and-go stations near entrances to increase your breakfast participation.
Cold Pre-Assembled Breakfast Bags
Our client partners most often choose to offer our cold breakfast menu for its ease of service. It provides the 2-ounce grain and fruit components of a reimbursable meal in individual, pre-assembled bags for each eater. Pair the breakfast bag with milk and an optional second fruit to provide the required components from which your eaters can choose under Offer vs. Serve. We offer cold breakfast menus with and without cereal.
Our pre-assembled breakfast bags are great for grab-and-go service near entrances or even breakfast-in-the-classroom.
