Taste Tests & Facility Tours: Look Behind-the-Scenes of Your School Meals

One of our favorite times of year is approaching – the season when we welcome groups to our commissary for tours and taste tests of foods we’re evaluating for our menus. Our guests always give us very honest, valuable feedback that only makes CKC Good Food and our menus better. And guests are generally engaged as we tour them through our massive kitchen and warehouse.

We invite schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program to bring a group to our commissary for a session between March 3 and May 22.

Event Details:

  • Group size: 12-24 people
  • Ages: grades 4 and above
  • Time: 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
  •

Please only one group per school to allow more schools to participate

Session Agenda:

  1. A 20-30 minute tour of our production facility, where guests can see how our team prepares thousands of meals every day.
  2. A review of the USDA nutritional guidelines for the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
  3. Sampling of School Breakfast Program items.
  4. A discussion of guests’ favorite and least favorite meals on your school’s current menus.
  5. Taste testing of new lunch recipes. There will be at least three main entrées as well as a vegetable, fruit, dessert and bottled water – enough for a full lunch.
  6. A short survey on school meals and the sample entrees.
  7. Additional Q&A time.

Tips for a successful educational tasting:

  1. Gather a group of eaters, family members, board members and staff who have shared ideas or wishes related to your food service.
  2. Provide your group with the educational information we will send you ahead of your visit.
  3. Ask those who will be attending to circle their 3 favorite and 3 least favorite meals on your current menu.
  4. Among your group, choose one main entrée you suggest be added to your menu.
